Sheri Whittington Bio

Instructor Sheri Whittington is thankful to have been involved in the magic of performing arts since childhood, and understands the power that early exposure to theatre can have on a lifelong love of the arts.  She believes the lessons and skills learned through participation in the performing arts will serve the students throughout their lifetime.
Sheri has served as a Theatre Artistic Director, IB Classroom Drama Teacher, and Arts Administrator.  She has instructed and coached over 300 performers from children through adults and has helped to mold some of Florida’s finest acting talent.  Her students can be found on Broadway, in National Touring Companies, Regional Theaters and attending some of the finest Colleges and Universities.  Sheri encourages her students to reach their full potential with passion, confidence, respect and professionalism.  Sheri‘s program incorporates truth in acting that can be utilized for stage, television, film or even the company boardroom.  Many former students have gone on to successful traditional careers including business, education, law and medicine.  However, she has numerous students who are professional actors currently appearing in theatre, film and television.  Some of her former students include:

Sheri has a BA from the University of South Florida majoring in Theatre Performance.  Sheri then continued her education with focused study in Film & Television and served as an On-Set Tutor and Dialect Coach for area film and video productions.  Sheri’s passion is teaching and inspiring others to fulfill their performance dreams, which led to founding and serving as the Artistic Director of the Looking Glass Theatre.  Her directing credits include Jesus Christ Superstar, Nunsense, Tongues, Schoolhouse Rock, Trifles, Diva, Dy, DB & Me, Grease, Evita, Oklahoma, Once on this Island, and The Sound of Music.  Other highlights include directing the elaborate staged reading of Lysistrata in collaboration with Gorilla Theatre and the Lysistrata Project for Peace.  Sheri has performed on-stage, in leading roles with Bay Area productions that include Fiddler on the Roof, Talley & Son, Psycho Beach Party, Postcards, As You Like It, Return to the Forbidden Planet, and West Side Story.  Sheri recently appeared in the Powerstories Theater production Shevolution, and is privileged to be affiliated with Girlstories Theatre.

Sheri served for five years as the Artistic Director for the Young Dramatists Project with Gorilla Theatre, and as the Manager of Community Relations with the Patel Conservatory at the Straz Performing Arts Center (TBPAC). Sheri has taught acting with a local Casting Director, Summerplay and the Young Actors Studio at USF, ArtsCorp, YMCA.  She also taught Drama at Corbett Preparatory - IDS with their International Baccalaureate program, and was part of the inaugural team at the Straz Center's Patel Conservatory.  She is very proud of her students, several of which are currently touring and appearing on stage, in film, and television.  She is very proud of her students, both in and out of the entertainment industry, and is excited to be part of the faculty at MJPAA.
